We learn different things at school, thanks to our teachers who never get tired of instilling knowledge and teaching us how to be a good person. Teachers have a very strong influence on us and on the future generations. Aside from our parents, they are the second most important person in our life. Like our parents, they can be a friend or an enemy. They can also be strict with us only because they want us to be better..
However, it is sad to know that the teachers today are mostly underpaid and underappreciated. Teachers make sure that they set an example for their students. Some of the even go above and beyond for them, just like this kindergarten teacher, Nancy Bleur.
She is a very sweet and caring 53-year-old kindergarten teacher. She is from Iowa and just like any other educator, she loves her job and also feels a very close connection with her students..
She would usually make the impossible, possible just to put a smile on their faces. Nancy noticed the 4-year old Camden not behaving like his usual self in her class one day. She pulled him aside and asked him what’s wrong. The little boy then openly shared about his father, Darreld Peterson, 34. What she heard made her heavy hearted. From the manner in which the kid was talking, Nancy earnestly felt like she needed to accomplish something..
She contacted Camden’s dad to figure out how serious Darreld’s sickness was. Darreld revealed to Nancy that he had a major problem with his kidneys. It’s still; functioning but only by 20%. Doctors put him on dialysis to cure the problem, however, the dialysis took a genuine toll on Darreld’s already fragile health. Camden told Nancy that his father looked so sick that it scared stiff Camden whenever he saw him..
Nancy knew that she can do something to help Camden and his dad. So she decided to help the family in a way that she could. Nope, it’s not giving Camden a day out, or help with their grocery shopping, or anything of that sort. Camden’s dad would not get better after all of that. Instead, she offered an extraordinary gift. Nancy offered to donate one of her kidneys! Nancy is a teacher.
Her role is to educate and care for Camden but her selfless gesture was surely more than what Camden and his dad can ever ask for. Nancy’s kidney was a perfect match for Darreld so Nancy hastily filled out the needed paperwork. She said, “I was really excited about it. I was ecstatic. I don’t know what I would’ve done for closure if I wasn’t a match.” Darreld was more than grateful to Nancy’s offer. She is the last person that he would expect this generous help.
He told ABC News, “It’s just amazing. There are people waiting every day for a kidney, for an organ in general.
I wish there were more people like her. She’s giving me a second chance at life.” Camden and Darreld surprised Nancy with flowers at school as a small token of gratitude. Because of Nancy’s generosity, Camden would never worry about growing up without his dad. He can look forward to a long and healthy life with him, thanks to his kindergarten teacher.
