A Florida mom says her 5 grade daughter is too embarrassed to return to school after her teacher asked if she was a lesbian if front of her entire class.
Jezenia Gambino is now homeschooling her daughter following the incident, which took place at Northport K-8 in Port St. Lucie last month. According to Gambino, rumors had been flying around the school that her daughter and a female classmate were dating. The news eventually reached their teacher, who confronted the pair in front of fellow students.
‘She asked them if they were a couple together and she asked them in a way that they felt they were in trouble,’ Gambino told WPTV on Monday.
The issue with this is that she accused in a shameful way. What if the girl was a lesbian and not ready to come out to her peers? And obviously her parents wouldn't approve if she is. So now the teacher has reinforced homosexuality as shameful and also embarrassed the child.— MichelleWithLuv⁷?? (@Sweetdestruxion) February 13, 2020
Gambino said she did not find out about the incident until she noticed her daughter looking visibly upset several days later.
Gambino’s daughter had received a text from the female friend saying ‘she wasn’t sure if they should hang out together anymore because of what happened in school’.

‘She [the friend] didn’t want anyone to think they were gay,’ Gambino stated. The furious mom contacted the school upon which the teacher was reported to the Florida Department of Education for engaging in inappropriate communication with student.
The teacher whose gender has not been disclosed was given a verbal warning over the incident. But Gambino says that is not enough. ‘What they did affected my daughter in a way that now I’m having to go back and fix, she told WPTV. She has now pulled her daughter out of the school and is homeschooling her for the rest of the year.
The Port St. Lucie school district says they ‘will not tolerate physical irritation or any other form of illegal irritation by any of its employees, students, volunteers or agents’.
